Effortless guidance for growing readers
The simplest Arabic reading scale ever introduced
A clear, five-stage system that helps every child find the right book effortlessly.

How do I know if this story is right for my child?
It sounds like a simple question…
But the answer is surprisingly complex.
The Core Question
“Is this book really right for my child?”
Too easy? Too difficult? Too mature?Parents guess, teachers estimate, booksellers try to help. But there was no simple Arabic reading-level system to guide anyone.
Age classification tells you if the content is appropriate…
but it does not tell you if the child can actually read it.
Why age-rating isn’t enough

You might think: “But books already have age classification — isn’t that enough?” Not quite.
The Real Gap:
Age Rating ≠ Reading Level
-
The UAE age-rating system classifies content safety, not reading difficulty.
-
Many people assume age 6–9 means “my 7-year-old can read it.”
-
In reality, it only measures appropriateness of themes; not reading skills.
A book may be perfectly suitable in theme
for an 8 year-old,
yet written at a reading level meant for
a 10 year-old..
or the other way around.
That’s why age ratings and reading levels serve different purposes and must work together, not replace each other.

Why Existing Academic Systems Aren’t Enough
-
Existing expert systems are excellent, but designed for educators, not the general public.
-
They might provide scientific accuracy, but difficult for parents, librarians, booksellers.
-
There was a need for a simple, friendly, five-level scale.
So at Ajyaal, we asked ourselves:
-
How do we keep the science…
-
but make it accessible?
-
How do we help every child read a book that fits them… effortlessly?
Introducing Ajyaal Book Level
A five-level system designed for real-life use
-
Built on academic foundations.
-
Simplified for families and book professionals.
-
Works for storybooks, early readers, informational texts.

Five words.
Five stages.
A five-stage pathway that helps readers choose the right book easily, from early decoding to confident, independent reading.
How does it work?
The Ajyaal Book Level system uses an AI model trained to analyze educational and narrative texts, alongside established Arabic and international classification criteria. The AI serves as a supporting tool for specialists—not a replacement—through three clear steps:
1
Text Analysis
The system examines word count, sentence structure, vocabulary, and overall length, estimating the level of reading independence required to understand the text.
2
Reading Comprehension Assessment
It evaluates narrative elements such as plot complexity, event sequencing, emotional depth, symbolism, and how much the reader depends on illustrations to interpret meaning.
3
Matching the results to Ajyaal’s five levels
Finally, the book’s characteristics are compared against the five Ajyaal reading levels to produce a clear, simple, and immediately usable classification.
